The teachers went on a 24-hour strike today, Tuesday, June 9, reacting to the draft law of the Ministry of Education, which is expected to be voted on Wednesday in Parliament.
Schools were open today but it was the preference of each teacher whether they would strike or not.

The bill for the “Upgrade of the School”, which brings about changes in all levels of education, will be introduced for discussion in the Plenary Session of the Parliament.
The General Assembly of the presidents of ELME decided, in addition to the 24-hour strike for Tuesday, and at the same time a rally and march should take place across the nation.
This is the fifth rally of teachers, who are calling for the withdrawal of the “anti-education” -as they characterize it- multi-bill for Education.
Teachers point out – among other things – that the polynomial bill increases the number of students in primary schools and kindergartens to 25 children in each class. Thus resulting in the merging of departments, the reduction of teaching staff, the degradation of the educational process and the movement of students.
They demand that the amendment provided by the cameras for the live broadcast of the lessons in the classrooms not be implemented, because “it violates personal data of students, teachers’ labor rights and constitutional freedoms”.
They also call for all necessary health and safety measures to be taken immediately in all schools, for the public school to be supported and for the funding of schools to be increased by the state budget.
For Wednesday, June 10, the day of the vote on the bill, teachers have again scheduled a rally and a concert outside Parliament. The bill of the Ministry of Education was accepted by a majority in the meeting of the Committee on Educational Affairs of the Parliament, as ND voted in favor and against SYRIZA, KINAL, KKE and MERA25.
