The Government spokesman, Stelios Petas addresses the public:- plans, May Day and Benefits

Petsas: On Tuesday at 18:00, Mitsotaki’s speech on the lifting of restrictions

May Day is being transferred, what the government spokesman said about the order in which normalcy will return to the country.

On Tuesday at 18:00 Kyriakos Mitsotakis will address the Greek people. In his speech, the prime minister will address the lifting of restrictive measures. “The aim was not to stay locked up in our homes forever but to take our lives back,” said government spokesman Stelios Petsas. Initially, he stressed, hairdressers and sanitary enterprises will be opened, followed by schools and restaurants.

For the celebration of May Day, he pointed out that it will take place on the first Saturday after the lifting of the restrictive measures and asked for an understanding from the unions. The government spokesman also gave a timetable for the payment of all the benefits of the first phase. “The success of our plan so far, especially compared to other developed European countries with a similar population, is not a snapshot of the moment for the archive,” the government spokesman said.

As Mr. Petsas characteristically said, “this process will be done with a plan, gradually, organized”. After the restrictive measures expire on May 4, “the government’s plan will begin to unfold in separate targeted phases in May and June. The rule will be that the stages of lifting the restrictive measures will be spaced apart so that the development of the pandemic can be continuously assessed. ”

May Day is transferred – asking for an understanding from the unions.

The government spokesman stressed that even symbolic gatherings such as those for the May Day celebrations could jeopardize what we have struggled to achieve so far. “It simply came to our notice then. It is a minimal sign of respect both for the Labor Movement and for the employees in the Health System but also for all the employees of the public and private sector that there should be no setbacks “.

“Only in this way will we overcome the health crisis an hour earlier so that all workers can return safely to their jobs,” said Mr. Petsas. “This is in the interest of the working world today.”

He added that in this context, the symbolic celebrations of May Day, with observance of rules and distances, are transferred for the first Saturday after the lifting of the restrictive measures.

“We expect that all the unions of workers, of all levels, but also of all political forces, will recognize in their stance that this year is different. Like Easter, May Day. ”
