Top tips for travelling to Zakynthos!

When we go on holiday, we try and learn as much as we can about the destination before we travel. There are so many things to get to grips with.

Researching your holiday

It’s always good to do research about the place you’re visiting, the language, customs, and other aspects of life in the country you’re visiting. Some people like to just fly and see what happens. Others like to know everything before they go. Whatever type of traveller you are, we have answers to most questions on our website or in our dedicated Facebook Group.

Travelling to Zakynthos

Zakynthos’s popularity as a holiday destination has grown over the last few decades to make it one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece. There are now 57 airports, in 53 cities, across 17 countries, that fly directly into Zakynthos during its summer season. Even if there isn’t a direct flight, travel booking websites and agents will be able to advise on the best way to get to the island.

On arrival in Zakynthos

The moment you land on the island, your senses will be hit with all that is Zakynthos. The sights, sounds and heat of your home for the next few days and weeks. Once you’ve left the airport, getting to your destinations is easy, via bus, hire car or taxi, and you will be welcomed by the views of coastline, olive groves and beaches as you head to your destination. Arrival in Greece is very easy and relaxing.

Can I buy things I need whilst on holiday?

Yes! There are lots of supermarkets and shops with all the essentials. Zakynthos is an island, so some of the products may cost a little more due to them being imported, but if you need nappies, shampoo, or suntan lotion you can find it. If there’s something you’re struggling to find head over to our Facebook group and just ask a question.

A little bit of Greek!

No one expects you to be fluent in Greek when you arrive on the island, but a few keywords or even phrases will go a long way.  Here are a few basics to get you started.

Yes: Nai (Ναί)

No: Oxi (όχι)

Does Greece have Public Holidays?

Yes, like many other countries Greece has public holidays too, some are the same as other countries, and others are for specific celebrations, festivals, and religious holidays.
