Zakynthos;- 4 Covid Vaccine centres planned.

Ms Damoulaki: “By the end of the week the number will be finalized”

The planning regarding the vaccination Centres that will be established on our island is progressing rapidly, so that everything is ready when the coronavirus vaccine arrives. Four centres will be available and specifically one in the TOMY (The local regional unit of Health Care),  at the Health Centre, in Pantokratoras and Katastari. Also, there is a thought for another one in Volimes, in order to serve the wider area more directly, however this has not been clarified, as it will depend on the availability of staff.

The mandate of the 6th Regional Health Centre is to make five vaccination centres in Zakynthos and to operate for six days in two shifts. However, we try to meet as much as possible the requirements of our vaccinations, but our obstacle is that there is not enough staff and we will see how it will be done in collaboration with the Commander of the 6th Regional Health Centre, Mr. Ioannis Karvelis, the Commander of the Hospital Mr. George Ragousis, the Member of Parliament for Zakynthos Mr. Dionysis Aktypis, and the general practitioners. We are trying to cover all the needs of the hospital and the regional clinics”, stressed the president of K.O.M.Y (Centre of Health Care), Zakynthos and Scientific Head of the Health Centre, Efi Damoulakis. She even pointed out that the other obligations of the TOMY, the Health Centre and the Regional Clinics should be taken into account in order for the vaccinations to work.

In fact, Ms. Damoulaki stressed that at the end of next week she will have clarified what the number of vaccination centres will be and whether it will be four or five, after the internal movements have been examined and how all the current needs will be met she added “The premises have been organized in at least the four vaccination centres. They have been equipped and we have ordered some other equipment that will come “.

Also an important issue concerns how the vaccines will come and where they will be stored so that they can then go to the Vaccination Centres. As stated in our newspaper, the Scientific Officer of the Health Centre has not clarified whether they will be stored in the hospital as a distribution station to be sent to the Centres, noting that “Here again we do not have enough information because it was heard that the refrigerators are taken to the hospital and from there will be their distribution station but I can not say for sure as it has not been clarified “.

Regarding the staff that each vaccination centre should have, this is specific, with Ms. Damoulaki explaining that “There must be three people, a nurse, a health visitor and the doctor for each shift. Of course, if there are two shifts, there will be more people. The Centre will also operate by appointment, either by phone or with a platform downloaded by those interested to make their appointment.

“We have procured the materials we need”

The Scientific Officer of the Health Centre Efi Damoulaki noted that in terms of equipment many and various agencies helped, with the vaccination centres having everything they need to proceed with the necessary procedures. “We do what we can to make them work as well as possible and with full equipment and with all the materials required by the vaccination centres. I want to thank all the doctors who help in all this effort, Mr. Karvelis, Mr. Ragousis, Mr. Markou, and all those who organized in a very short time and made the contacts to procure the materials. It is not easy to procure some equipment. A competition must be held. To get offers. It is a job that was done in a short period of time and required a lot of dedication “.

Instructions to citizens

Ms. Damoulaki did not fail to give specific instructions again to the citizens of Zakynthos, as she asked them not to forget the individual protection measures and to observe them to the letter. He even stressed that these are the weapons of the citizens until the vaccinations start and until a significant part of the population of Zakynthos is vaccinated.
He added, “Until the time comes for people to be vaccinated, we must not forget, in order to be all well, the measures we must take. Do not forget the mask. Hand washing, disinfection and distances to be observed. It is very important. Open the windows. They are our weapons because until the vaccinations start, great care is required and a large part of the population must be vaccinated, it takes a long time “.

Rapid tests continue

At the same time, rapid tests by the K.O.M.Y. Zakynthos. On our island, its epidemiological picture is still very good, with the Mobile Unit in fact continuing the controls both in Local Communities and in services such as the City Hall of Vanatos, where all 45 sample tests were negative.
The K.O.M.Y. Zakynthos asks people not to be afraid to take tests and asks other local communities to express interest in conducting sampling tests.
