A 55-year-old was hiding on Mount Skopos, as a conviction was pending against him.
The 55-year-old was sentenced to a pre-trial detention on the charge of arson, with the consent of the investigator and prosecutor.
According to police sources, the 55-year-old seems to be responsible for the big fire, last Saturday, in the village of Argassi, Zakynthos, where the flames reached the first houses in the area, but also for a second, smaller, fire on Mount Skopos.
According to the same sources, the 55-year-old was hiding on Mount Skopos, as a conviction was pending against him, for attacking firefighters with a knife and he had not paid the bail set.
With this reason, the 55-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning and after a police investigation, but also the use of testimonies, he seems to have confessed that he was responsible for the fires.
It should be noted that the accused had previously occupied the police authorities for arson cases.
