Zakynthos Agala. Tourist rescued after fall

Long rescue operation of a tourist in Agalas.

Long rescue operation of a tourist in Agala late yesterday afternoon.  A particularly difficult and long rescue operation took place in the Plakaki area of our island when a tourist fell off a cliff and was injured. Her friend, also a tourist, called 112 immediately. 4 vehicles from the Fire Brigade with 12 men in cluding volunteers from the area, rushed to the scene and a boat from the port authority from the sea was on standby.

It all started when the foreign tourist and her friend was walking in the specific area that is quite a distance from the village, when she suddenly slipped on an inaccessible path and fell on a cliff towards the sea.

The place where the woman had fallen was inaccessible, as a result of which her rescue took time.

Initially, her rescue was attempted by sea, but in the end this was not possible as the distance where the woman had fallen from the sea was too far.

Therefore, a stretcher had to be lowered by the fire brigade finally to the injured woman. As there area was particularly difficult due to the morphology of the ground, the operation took time. Indeed, after a long time, the rescuers were able to lift the injured woman out and take her to where an ambulance was waiting.   The woman was diagnosed with a fracture to the ankle and after surgery, she remained hospitalized.
