Zakynthos:- classed as “GREEN AREA” in coronavirus pandemic

ECDC: Greece is the only country in Europe with “green” coronavirus areas

Greece is among the countries with the fewest cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the same period.

An optimistic note for the future of the pandemic in our country is the report of the ECDC, the European Center for Infection Control, according to which Greece is the only country in Europe that has “green” areas, in terms of cases of coronavirus.

The positive epidemiological data over the last days in our country are reflected in the ECDC map, proving that Greece is in a much better situation than the rest of Europe and of course the EU.

In the following map concerning the combined test index, new cases and positivity index for the period from 1 to 14 January, Greece is the only country that has its areas in the “green” and most of it is in the “yellow”, when the vast majority of European countries remain in the “red”.

Specifically, in the “green” are areas of Epirus, the Ionian Islands, Cyclades islands and the Dodecanese.

On the other hand, the whole of Greece is on the “green” and on the map with the positivity index, with most of Europe remaining on “yellow”. This means that in the whole territory the positivity index is below the alarm threshold of 4%, unlike the rest of Europe. Also, Greece is among the countries with the fewest cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the same period.

Areas are marked in the following colours:

  • green if the 14-day notification rate is lower than 25 cases per 100 000 and the test positivity rate below 4%;
  • orange if the 14-day notification rate is lower than 50 cases per 100 000 but the test positivity rate is 4% or higher or, if the 14-day notification rate is between 25 and 150 cases per 100 000 and the test positivity rate is below 4%;
  • red if the 14-day notification rate is 50 cases per 100 000 or higher and the test positivity rate is 4% or higher or if the 14-day notification rate is higher than 150 cases per 100 000;
  • grey if there is insufficient information or if the testing rate is lower than 300 cases per 100 000
