Zakynthos:- Colchester City Pipes and Band in Zakynthos.

COLCHESTER CITY PIPES AND BAND IN ZAKYNTHOS FOR THE FIRST TIME.

During the three day event of Giostra Di Zante, we had the pleasure of hosting the team from Colchester, England.

It was the first time they visited our island and they were not only impressed by Zakynthian hospitality but with the whole organization of “Giostra”.

History of the team.

The team is well known within their own area and not only. The great band was originally formed in 2010 by a group of bagpipers and drummers who wanted to do something different. So, they formed a new band calling it Colchester and District Pipes and Drums or for short CADPAD. Their goal was to encourage others to join; needless to say they did with over twenty eight band members at present.

They have taken part in numerous events in their city area and progressed to taking part in Tattoos and various high profile events in the UK and Europe.

About six years ago the band decided to re-name itself and would become known as “Colchester Pipes and Drums” whilst continuing to play at all sorts of events from weddings to funerals when required, Tattoos, village fetes, carnivals and various other events.

Recently the band were honoured by leading a procession when Colchester was made a City an accolade past to the Town by UK’s late Queen, Queen Elizabeth. As the province of Colchester had changed its name to Colchester City, the band also followed, by changing their name to Colchester City Pipe Band. They are now officially Colchester City’s band, taking part in many civic events and with their performance, can add Zakynthos to their list.

Whilst here in Zakynthos they took part of the three day event which took place on the 2nd up to the 4th of June, 2023, playing so well that people cheered them on and wanted them to play more. The team was certainly a highlight to this year’s Giostra and Zakynthos welcomed them for the first time as Zakynthians know best.

Another highlight for the team was a visit from our own British Vice Consulate office and representative, Vice Consul to Zakynthos & Kefalonia, Mr Matthew Delapp, thus strengthening the British presence and on going close relations we have on our Island.

Zakynthos Informer would like to take this opportunity in thanking the management and staff at Alexander Beach Hotel, Tsilivi for extending their heartwarming hospitality.

We would also like to thank the team of Colchester for honouring us with their presence and we trust that this will only be the beginning of a very strong relationship.
