A photo from the Zakynthos Shipwreck, which shows the world-famous beach filled with garbage, has been making the rounds on social media for the past few hours. The photo, published by the environmentalist Michalis Bakas, was the occasion to start a “ball” of responsibilities between the Municipality and the competent Committee under the Ministry of Tourism.
On Wednesday morning (10.08.2022) the Minister of Tourism also spoke about the garbage that had accumulated at the Shipwreck of Zakynthos, underlining that his role must be unifying. Vassilis Kikilias admitted – as he characteristically stated to ANT1 T.V channel- that “Such images do not honor our country”, noting at the same time that steps have been taken to preserve the landscape.
Vassilis Kikilias also stated that it is obvious that the part of garbage falls under the responsibilities of the local government. He also noted that the Ministry of Tourism will contribute to the movement of cleanliness in the matter of Zakynthos. He also stated that at the end of the tourist season the area will be improved not only for the safety of tourists but also to enhance the area.
