The Anemi Theater Company and the director Maria Louisa Papadopoulou invite us to the play “Ivala Ivala, oh, let’s go gialo gialo” ( a theme derived from a Greek song) which will take place on September 16 and 17, 18, 19, at the castle of Zakynthos, at 8:00 p.m. in the evening.
A group of actors, of modern “dance” (re)composes a stormy and at the same time ritual music-theatre performance/narrative about Smyrna, the diamond of the east. How a bustling, multicultural city disappears from the rise of nationalisms, imperialist interests, the cultivation of passions, intemperance, myopic petty partisanship and omnipresent division.
On a text of original writing composed of a metamorphosis/collage of narratives, fragments of Asia Minor history, documents, a performance of mixed style is created, where the tragic is involved with humor, satire, Karagiozis, choral recitation.
The themes of the ancient tragedy, Hubris, Atis – the darkness of delusion – find fertile ground in this deep and unhealed trauma.
In destruction the merciless turn of fortune at hand, Nemesis the tragic fate strikes mainly the Asia Minor Christians.
The production takes place within the framework of the 2022 program, the “All Greece is one Culture” institution of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
