In Zakynthos, residents and organizations react to the closure of the road that “leads” to views of the “Shipwreck”. The road to the shipwreck view point is closed due to a high risk of fire.
As a safety precaution the road has been closed due to the on going risks of fire. Tomorrow, August 19 our risk level is at Risk Category 3 (High):
The risk is high. An increased number of fires are likely to occur, many of which will be difficult to deal with when local conditions are favorable (soil morphology, local winds, etc.).
As there is only one road in and out this is a cause of concern for our authorities. Until the risk of danger decreases all forest roads will be closed, including the shipwreck view point road.
Obviously, the shipwreck can still be seen and you can visit the beach area, however this can be done only by boat for now.
It is also noteworthy that our volunteers are patrolling the forest areas on a twenty four hour basis, however, we would ask all to be vigilant in helping protecting our forests. If anything seems suspicious please call 199 immediately.
