Zakynthos celebrates our Patron Saint, Dionysios from the 23rd up to the 26th August.
The Program of Ceremonies of the return of the relics of our Patron Saint, Dionysios is as follows:-
Wednesday.
At 11.00a.m exactly Zakynthos will announce that their Saint is among the people. Loud guns shots, cannons and ship horns, along with church bells will join in the announcement.
At 7 pm, During the Church service, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and Africa. Theodore II from the Holy Monastery to the Holy Temple will take part.
Immediately after, a Doxology hymns will be sung with a procession of Saint Dionysios inside the Church, and then the Great Vespers will be celebrated.
Thursday.
On Thursaday August 24, 2022, the main day of the feast, at 2 a.m (midnight)., a holy Vigil will begin.
In the morning, at 07:30 a.m., the Orthros Service will begin and immediately after that the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy will be celebrated.
In the afternoon, at 19.30p.m , the Great Procession of Saint Dionysios will take place through Zakynthos, in all its splendour. Fireworks Display as our Patron Saint returns to the church.
Saturday.
On Saturday, August 26, 2022, at 08:30 a.m., the High Priestly Liturgy will be held and then, at 11 a.m., the procession of Saint Dionysios will take place inside the Holy Temple and will be placed in His Holy Chambers.
In the above Sacred Services and Ceremonies, the People and Authorities are invited to attend according to the established order.
The Holy Procession on the 24th August will be celebrated outside the Church, by the Air Force Honors Ceremony, the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Zakynthos, the Philharmonics of Katastari and Artemisia, Boy Scouts and Guides departments, representatives of Primary Schools, High Schools, Vocational Schools and Social organisations.
The Mayor of Zakynthos and the President of the Port Fund are requested to take care of the flag decoration of the city and the port. Also the Police Director and the Harbor Master for maintaining order.
The use of a mask inside and outside the Temple is recommended.
Note:-
From the 21st August up until the morning of the 26th August, a market will be open opposite the church.
At 11.00a.m exactly on the 23rd and 26th Zakynthos will announce the celebrations commencement and closing with loud guns shots across the island, cannons firing and ship horns, along with church bells across the island that will join in the announcement.
On the 24th during the Litany a fireworks display will take place. Parking in town on this day will be very difficult….No parking will be allowed along the route of where the Litany will take place, which is mainly along the coastal road of Zakynthos from the church up to Solomos square.
