Zakynthos:- Trade Association calls for Pedestrian only areas.

The trade association of Zakynthos in a last effort to stimulate the market of Zakynthos, especially in the summer months when the traffic is increased, during its recent meeting decided to ask the Municipality to close both Alexandros Roma and the 21st of May and for the area to be pedestrianized, to facilitate the movement of citizens who will be able to walk more comfortably and thus the shops to increase their customer base.
At the same meeting, findings were made as well as a protest for the days of Easter, during which these main streets in the city remained open, resulting in traffic jams and the suffering of pedestrians trying to shop in these areas.
The president of the Commercial Association, Mr. Tassos Tzimis, even made it known that despite the meeting that the association had with the mayor on this issue, there was no result and so, for the first time, during Holy Week, Alexandros Roma and the 21st of May remained open. “You could understand that people could not walk and shop within these two streets and preferred areas such as Solomou Square and other easily accessible areas, with the consequence that our shops suffered from this subsidence. “Several times during Holy Week, the traffic police intervened to clear the two roads with the unconscious drivers who had double parked”, pointed out the president of the Zakynthos Commercial Association, Tassos Tzimis, and stressed that “these roads must be closed first, because it will be the first time in the 20 years that will not close for summer. The regular meeting that took place during Holy Week and which was attended by many members of the Commercial world, as well as the legal advisor Mr. Potamitis, to offer his legal advice after 2.5 hours of discussion, came to what had been pre-decided in February with document to the Mayor. That is, the closure of Alexandros Romas and the 21st of May until the end of October, in order to stimulate the commercial movement, which professionals need more than anything else, especially this summer, and at the same time to advance Iliopoulos’s studies for marking and finding space. parking for the locals who live in Al. Rome and the 21st of May and also visitors “.
Mr. Tzimis also announced that in cooperation with the Port Fund they are in the process of finding a parking space and that he hopes that in the summer the studies for the final closure and pedestrianization of May 21 and Alexandros Roma will be completed. In fact, he mentioned a typical example on another island, Mytilini, which took only a month for the notification in the Government Gazette and the main Municipal Road to become a pedestrian street when we, as he mentioned, have been struggling for 20 years and wished the municipal councilors and the Mayor to make the right decisions.
