Zakynthos:- Tragic accident:- One dead and two seriously injured

A tragic accident took place today, Monday, February 21, at 2 pm at a marble trading company in Kamara Agios Lazaros on Anapafseos Street, resulting in the fatal injury of one person and the serious injury of two others, who are being treated in critical condition at our local  Hospital.

The attempt to free the workers who seem to have been crushed by marble during work in containers was dramatic and was attended by men of the Fire Brigade, police and rescuers of EKAB. The special rescue vehicle of the Fire Brigade was also used with the equipment it has for such difficult cases.

Investigations are currently being carried out by the involved services (Police, Fire Department) to find the causes and circumstances under which the tragic event occurred.

At a distance of a few tens of meters from the spot, another tragic accident had occurred some years ago when a concrete mixer had fallen during construction work and crushed our fellow citizen.

Zakynthos in shock

Extreme sadness has prevailed across the island since the news of the death of 35-year-old Zakynthos K.A., who lost his life this afternoon.

According to the first information, regarding the way the accident took place, three people were inside the container, which contained large marble slabs that had to be unload, when they fell.

An arlam was immediately signaled to the Fire Department of Zakynthos which rushed to the spot to release them.

After the superhuman efforts of the firefighters, the police and the volunteers, the two people were released, who were transported by EKAB ambulance to the General Hospital of Zakynthos, where they are being treated in serious condition.

Then a huge operation began to free the 35-year-old who was at the bottom of the container. To reach him, firefighters cut one side of the iron container with a saw and with straps tied to a lifting machine (Clark) opened the point to reach the unfortunate man.

He was immediately picked up by the EKAB who transferred him to our local hospital

Unfortunately, his death was only confirmed there.

This accident is such an tragedy, Zakynthos Informer sends sincere condolences to the family.
