Zakynthos:-Two citizens were arrested for the theft at the Holy Church of Agios Haralambos

We remind you that recently the  church of Agios Haralambos, Zakynthos,  was burgled around 11 o’clock at night on Wednesday, August 31.

The perpetrators, broke into the church from the side door and entered the sanctuary from where they removed two carved silver candlesticks and a gospel, with a total value of -10,000- euros.
A Police team arrived at the church, collected evidence and fingerprints to identify the perpetrators. A team from the Archaeological Service also arrived on the scene as the church of Agios Haralambis has been a declared historical monument.
Reports now state that during the spontaneous procedure, in the evening hours, yesterday (05.09.2022), in Zakynthos, by police officers of the Security Department, two citizens – a man and a woman – were arrested and a criminal case was filed against them for the crime of aggravated theft.In particular, after using information, a police operation was organized, which led to the identification and arrest of the above, as it turned out that on Monday night (04.09.2022) they broke the door of the Holy Church of Agios Haralambous, with the intention of stealing once again, without completing their act.

In the search that followed in the house of the arrested, various tools were found and confiscated, as well as all the stolen objects, which were returned to the vicar of the Holy Temple.

A preliminary investigation into the case was carried out by the Zakynthos Security Department, while the involvement of the perpetrators in other cases of theft is being examined.

The arrested were taken to the District Attorney of Zakynthos.
