150 people die of flu in Greece from last October to early May

The flu death toll in Greece has hit 150 from the start of the flu season last October until early May, Greece’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) announced on Thursday.

Four patients died this week from complications after contracting the influenza virus, according to KEELPNO’s statement.

During the same period an additional 388 serious cases of flu were treated in hospitals, including 374 patients who were admitted in intensive care.

Greek experts stressed that the overwhelming majority of victims and those who were hospitalized had not been inoculated, including people at high risk of complications.

The flu season in Greece this year is expected to end late May.

In the previous flu season 2017-2018 Greece had reported 42 fatalities and in the season 2016-2017 a total of 108 fatalities, according to KEELPNO data. [xinhua]
