Seven people have been reportedly drowned when a boat carrying refugees and migrants to Greece capsized just a few nautical miles off the island of Lesvos.
57 people have been rescued. Among those who lost their lives are two underage girls, four women and one man.
The boat capsized 2.5 nautical miles off Pamfyles, near the capital of the island Mytilene.
The passengers, mostly migrants from African countries, fell into the sea, with the majority of them to not know swimming.
The Greek Coast Guard was alerted around 7 o’ clock on Tuesday morning that a boat was in distress.
Boats from the Coast Guard and the Frontex as well as a Super Puma helicopter rushed to the area. They were able to rescue 57 people, among many children and women.
The survivors were transferred to the port of Mytilene where they were questioned about the total number of boat passengers. The rescued are reportedly in shock.

The boat had left the coast of Turkey around 2 o’ clock Tuesday
It should be noted that at the time of the accident, weather and sea conditions were fair.
