With masks, all the students present but also with other adaptations is expected for this year’s opening of schools. Some adaptations include different hour breaks and extra measures for protection. The schools are expected to open in early September. After a suggestion of the experts of the infectious disease committee who held a video conference with the leadership of the Ministry of Education.
The announcement of the Ministry of Education is as follows:
The Minister of Education and Religions, Niki Kerameos, the Deputy Minister, Sofia Zacharaki, and the Deputy Minister, Vassilis Digalakis, participated today in a teleconference with the members of the National Commission for the Protection of Public Health against the coronavirus COVID19.
The subject of the teleconference is the continuation of the preparation of the operation of the educational structures that had started months ago, in order – as already announced by the leadership of the Ministry – to update the preparation in the light of the latest epidemiological data of the pandemic in our country.
Following a unanimous recommendation of the Committee, it is planned that the reopening of all school units will take place in full composition (ie with all students) and with increased protection measures (such as extensive use of mask, different student breaks, etc.). Details on the reopening of all educational structures will be finalized in the coming days and will be announced in full by the Ministry.
In regards to masks they are aware that younger students will have difficulty and therefore all options are being discussed.
As stated by the Minister, Niki Kerameos: “Our communication with the Ministry of Health and the members of the National Committee for the Protection of Public Health against coronavirus COVID19 is constant with the aim of constantly updating and adapting the educational process to the special conditions we are going through. As in the past, so now, the suggestions of experts are the ones that guide us to increased precautions and measures to ensure public health where and when they are needed. In the immediate future and as soon as the relevant discussions with the Commission are completed, the Ministry will announce the full framework for the reopening of the structures under it “.
