Mykonos:- Strict measures introduced again, including curfew and music ban

The nightmare of restrictive measures returns – Why Mykonos “turned red”, what other areas are in danger.

Experts had sounded the alarm for the island of winds, which has long been flirting with a local lockdown.

The first restrictive measures in the middle of the summer season are now a fact.

Coronation parties in villas and the subsequent outbreak of Mykonos cases have prompted the government to take immediate action to stem the pandemic.

The party in villas, at a time when entertainment and catering shops were closed or closed due to restrictive measures for the coronavirus, had begun to erupt again this year with the rightful owners angry.

Professionals in Mykonos had repeatedly protested against the inaction of the authorities and the lack of action.

According to the new measures, a traffic ban will be imposed from 01:00 to 06:00 and a music ban will be imposed everywhere from 18:00 this evening and 24 hours a day. Meaning no music at all over the next few days

What will apply

From today, Saturday 17/7 and due to the alarming local outbreak of the epidemic during the last 24 hours, with multiple outbreaks and clusters, the Government proceeds to the adoption and implementation of special measures for the island of Mykonos.

More specifically:

  1. Traffic ban from 01.00 in the evening until 06.00 in the morning, with the exception of work reasons and serious health reasons.

  1. Prohibition of music 24 hours a day, starting today at 18:00.

The measures are valid until Monday 26/7 at 06:00 in the morning with an intermediate reassessment of the epidemiological situation.

We also remind you that in Mykonos, as well as in the whole territory, it is forbidden to hold any kind of events that are held in exchange for any kind of exchange, with the physical presence of a crowd of more than twenty (20) people in private, non-professional space. The administrative fine in case of violation amounts from 50,000 to 200,000 Euros for the lessee or the concessionaire of the private, non-professional space, in which the said event took place or takes place.

Hardalia warning – Which areas are at risk

The taking of the new measures was evident from the latest information on the evolution of the pandemic when Nikos Hardalias had rung the alarm bell for specific areas.

According to the data of that time, the active cases in Mykonos quadrupled in just one week, while in Heraklion and Rethymno they increased by two and three times. Santorini and Paros and Ios are also in the red.

“In the six areas we mentioned, I think the epidemiological burden is clear and yes, we are one step ahead of taking concrete measures. However, we believe that we can avoid these measures if we can coordinate all those involved in the next 24 hours and make it clear to everyone that special attention is needed to seal all the clusters and confluences that exist in these areas, “said Nikos Hardalias.

Paros, Santorini, Milos, Rethymno and Heraklion.

In particular, in Paros in recent days there is an increase of 520%, in Santorini 140%, in Rethymno 46% (but with many cases), in Heraklion 83% and in Milos 500% with a significant increase in the number of cases always in regards to the ratio of 100,000 inhabitants

The endless parties

Frenzy parties in Mykonos were common events on the island for tourists who had chosen this destination for their vacation.

The images of the thousands of people dancing frantically at the illegal parties in the villas had caused  concern of the experts who had rung the bell.

Masks and distances at these parties were a word completely unknown to attendees.

Mykonos: 18-year-old tourist with coronavirus

An 18-year-old tourist, during his vacation in Mykonos, tested positive for the coronavirus, as a result of which he could not find a room to spend the night.

Civil Protection claims that all beds in quarantine hotels are occupied, stressing that the tourist can stay in another accommodation, as long as he informs that he is ill with Covid, but no one accepted him.

The issue was highlighted by Mykonos Live TV, which was contacted by a resident of the island, arguing that the behavior of the island’s professionals could lead to huge defamation of the island.
