A 7 month pregnant Zakynthian lady in serious condition with Covid in Rio Hospital

A 7-month-pregnant woman with coronavirus is being treated at the University General Hospital of Patras in serious condition. She is likely to have to undergo a caesarean section to save the baby. Her health condition is deteriorating and she will probably be intubated.

Speaking at OPEN Monday morning, the NHS Director of the University Hospital, D Papalexiou said

“There has been  a pregnant 30 weeks from Zakynthos, hospitalised here for the last three days. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we are ready for cesarean and probability that she will need to be intubated.

We made a desperate attempt yesterday with a mask and it seems that the results are better.

It reached a tipping point yesterday and we made one last effort.

He added: “She must have a caesarean section immediately, the child must enter an incubator immediately because it is premature.”

The director said that the situation at the COVID clinic is critical and that another clinic will be opened. “We have 22 beds and 21 sick people, of which all but two are unvaccinated” he said. He also referred to a 19-year-old who contracted coronavirus and developed a pulmonary embolism, who was unvaccinated
