Acropolis Museum celebrates its 10th anniversary with a series of events

The Acropolis Museum celebrates its 10th anniversary with a series of events that include among others a walk-through excavation of an ancient Athenian neighborhood, a photography show and a concert by famous composer Stavros Xarchakos.

The events aim to thank the 14,500,000 Greek and foreign visitors who cross the museums gates in its 10 years of operation.

On some days the entrance will be free.

Photography exhibition about marble craftsmen who contributed to the restoration of the Acropolis Monuments often using traditional methods. 11. June – 31. October 2019

Lecture  by Italian Professor Giovanni Verri:  “The True Colors of the Parthenon Sculptures: Evidence from Traces of Genuine Multicolor and Their Interpretation”. Place; Amphitheater on Museum’s gorundfloor at 7 p.m., 13. June.

Stavros Xarchakos Concert: 8-member orchestra with Xarchakos’ own works as well as of Mikis Theodorakis, Vassilis Tsitanis, Markos Vamvakaris and Manos Hatzidakis. At 9 p.m. on 19. June. On this particular evening the Museum will operate on extended hours from 8 pm until midnight. Free admission.

Celebration of 10 years of the Acropolis Museum on 20. June. Free Admission to the permanent exhibitions, open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Excavation visit on 21. June: The archaeological excavation located on the grounds of the Museum will be accessible to the public with the general entrance ticket.

The unearthed site extends over ​​4,000 sq. meters with houses, workshops, baths and streets of an ancient Athenian neighborhood with a lifespan from the classical to the Byzantine years, in successive phases.

Architectural ruins are organized into a unique exhibition complex that sheds light on the everyday life of an ancient neighborhood under the shadow of the Acropolis.

The excavation is visible under transparent walkways at the entrance of the Acropolis Museum.

On this particular day, the exhibition venues of the Museum will be open from 8am until 10pm.
