“Diomidis” is coming Where intense phenomena will “hit”

A new deterioration of the weather is forecast in our country, with the main characteristics being heavy rainfall, very stormy winds and a noticeable drop in temperature. The new bad weather will be called “Diomidis”.

According to the forecast data of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, rain and sporadic thunderstorms, which occur today, Monday, January 10, in the morning in several parts of the country, are expected to intensify during the day.

Northern Greece, the Northern and Eastern Aegean, the Ionian, the Peloponnese, Crete and the Dodecanese will be most affected. At the same time, the snowfalls that occur in the mountains, will gradually expand to areas of Western Macedonia with lower altitudes. The probability of hail is increased, especially in island parts, while the possibility of severe rain in parts of the Aegean.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN STEREA, WESTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Cloudy with local rain – mainly in the Ionian sporadic thunderstorms, probably strong in places. Snowfall will occur in the mainland mountains, which from night will be dense in places.

Winds: Initially from west 3 to 5 beaufort, turning quickly to south southeast with the same intensity.
Temperature: From 08 to 15 degrees Celsius while in Epirus it will be 3 to 4 degrees lower.

Tuesday (11/01/2022)

Cloudy with rain – mainly in the east and south sporadic thunderstorms. The phenomena will be strong in places, mainly in Thessaly. In the evening the effects in the west will stop.

Snowfalls will occur in the mountains of the mainland which will be dense in places. In the night it will snow in semi-mountainous areas of the northern country.

The winds will be – in the west northeast 3 to 5 and locally in the Ionian 6 beaufort. In the northern Aegean the wind will be east northeast 7 to 8 and locally 9 beaufort, while in the central and southern Aegean they will initially be south 4 to 6 beaufort, but gradually they will become north with a tendency to strengthen at night.

The temperature will drop mainly in the north and will not exceed 11 degrees in the northern mainland, in the Ionian and the rest of the mainland up to 14 degrees and in the Aegean 16 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday (12/01/2022)

In the west, a few clouds are forecast in places, increased. In the rest of the regions, increased clouds with rain are forecast, and mainly in the sea and coastal parts, sporadic thunderstorms.

Snowfalls will occur in the mountains and semi-mountains as well as in areas of the northern country with lower altitudes. The effects, which are likely to be strong in places in the central and southern parts, will gradually stop in the north and will weaken in the rest of the regions.

Wind in the southeast will initially be west 4 to 6, gradually becoming north 5 to 7 Beaufort. In the remaining areas will be north northeast 5 to 7 and in the Aegean 8 and locally 9 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop significantly, mainly in the northern and eastern country where it will fluctuate at low levels. In places frost will occur in the central and northern.

Thursday (13/01/2022)

In the west and north generally clear weather with a few clouds. In the rest of the regions clouds  increased with localised rain that will gradually be limited to Crete and the Dodecanese. A little snow will fall in the mountains as well as in semi-mountainous areas of the central country.

The wind will be north northeast 5 to 7 and in the Aegean locally 8 to 9 Beaufort with weakening from the evening hours.

The temperature will drop slightly further and will be kept low. In the mainland there will be frost mainly in the morning and evening hours, which in the north will be strong in places.

Friday (14/01/2022)

Generally clear weather with a few clouds in the southern island country.

The winds will be from north 3 to 5 and in the Aegean locally 6 beaufort.

The temperature will rise to its maximum, but early in the morning and evening on the mainland there will be frost which in the north will be strong in places.

Saturday (15/01/2022)

Generally clear weather.

The winds will blow northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly. There will be frost in the morning and evening on the mainland.
