Do you want to recycle?….

So you want to recycle? Well let’s hope you do!

However, over the last few years recycling has been a difficult task seeing that Zakynthos hasn’t really had the proper facilities to recycle.

Well, that may all change and here is why.

AEKK Zakynthos Recycling Company with modern facilities located geographically, at the centre of the island’s construction business, aspires to play an important role throughout the cycle of excavation, construction and demolition waste ie storage, treatment and recovery.

OPERATION AND ROLE

Their unit is affiliated with ANAKEM SA, a collective management alternative system of Central Macedonia AEK which operates in the following areas to:

  1. Inform private, public and private entities about their recycling obligations.
  2. Make contracts with the responsible managers for the recycling of their waste.
  3. Support and supervision of the responsible managers for the proper sorting of waste at the point where it is generated (sorting at source), as well as the possibilities for temporary storage, transportation and treatment.
  4. Support and oversee the contracted treatment plants for their recycling processes.
  5. Determination of the quality parameters of recycled products in order to optimize their use.
  6. Support the Public Services and Local Authorities in achieving the objectives for the prevention, re-use, recycling and recycling of materials and environmental management, in particular the fight against uncontrolled dumping.
  7. Planning and implementation of information and awareness-raising actions of stakeholders and citizens on alternative management issues of AECCs.
  8. Collaborate with Research Centres, Universities and Enterprises to promote research in the production and utilization of recycled AECC materials.
  9. Study and implementation of inactive quarry rehabilitation projects as a new area of activity in 2019, according to the updated business plan.
