For anyone who missed it, Zakynthos Easter preparations have been taking place this last weekend. This is a very important time for Zakynthians and it’s not just the celebrations, it’s also about how we prepare.
It started with making traditional Easter decorations, for the local church, the donkey being the hardest, so they say…. but here you go, here’s how it’s done!
Villagers climbed the belltower to adorn it with Easter Decorations they had made, another important tradition in a small Zakynthian Village.
Churches across Zakynthos have prepared for tomorrow’s services. Palm Sunday gives the official start of Holy Week. Tomorrow we will be giving our Cross made from Palm leaves and whoever is lucky enough to take one of the more exotic decorations home, to be placed on their icons. The “Vagia” as it is known here will be kept until the following year replacing last year’s ones which will be burnt as tradition will have it.
We hope you enjoyed these videos giving a glimpse of our important Zakynthian Easter preparations, and wish you all Happy Easter.
