It’s been announced by the Ionian Film Office based in Corfu, in the last week that filmmakers around the world have received an invitation to shoot forthcoming Documentaries, Films, TV series, or other short programmes in the Ionian Islands. This incentive would see both National and International film production companies making use of the beautiful locations of the Ionian Islands to film, including Corfu, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada, and Zakynthos.
There are many incentives for production companies to choose the Ionian Islands as a filming location. This includes beautiful locations, stunning architecture, and the general sweeping landscapes that are renowned for simply being the Ionian Islands. Further incentives noted to production companies where things such as reduced rates and support with a wide range of services through Greek government departments and agencies.
The Ionian Islands film office
As with other film offices around the world, the Ionian Islands Film Office is the link between filming production companies and the region of the Ionian Islands themselves. The Ionian Islands Film Office provide several services aimed at attracting filmmakers to the area, as well as boosting the Ionian Islands appeal to International and National filmmakers
The Ionian Islands Film Office aims to promote and highlight advantages in Culture, Entertainment and Tourism specified locations within the Ionian region, that would make perfect filming locations. The Film Office aims to provide a wealth of information relating to administrative processes, how Production Companies can find filming locations, film crew, and filming facilities. They also aim to provide help with decisions on required permits for public administration and government agencies.
The Ionian Islands Film Office will also interact between production companies and national and local stakeholders of the Ionian islands and provide reliable and effective information relating to national and regions regional policies about audio-visual productions and filming in Greece.
The Ionian islands, a unique film set!
As we all know the Ionian Islands are completely unique, with stunning scenery, old historic sites, and traditional Greek areas. Films and documentaries have already been filmed on several the Ionian islands from the feature film, “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”, the popular TV series “The Durrells”, South Korean drams, “Descendents of the Sun” and the TV documentary, “The Greek Islands with Julia Bradbury”. The Ionian Film Office looks at supporting both International and National filming productions which they hope will be done on the Ionian Islands. The Ionian Film Office already collaborates with the department of audio and visual arts at the Ionian University, so The Ionian Film Office will be in the position to act as the first point of contact for any audio-visual equipment suppliers that are required for any future productions taking place on the Ionian islands.
This is a great announcement from The Ionian Film Office and hopefully, in the future, we may see some more interesting and exciting productions taking place on islands throughout the Ionian Islands. Let’s hope one day something spectacular is made on Zakynthos, it would really highlight the beauty, history, and tradition of our much-loved island.
