With joy, dance, song and of course many delicious and honey covered “Glaounes”, this year the “Glaouna Festival” was held by the Kallithea Cultural Club “Koukesi”, unfortunately, fighting against bad weather. The feast began at noon and was completed after a few hours due to the downpour.
“The celebration is now an institution for the island of Zakynthos where it revives a custom that has its roots in the tradition of our homeland. A custom that walks on the cultural and social road which has been our path for generations now, we show our customs, culture and our products, thus maintaining and keeping alive our culture, “says the president of the Society, Dimitris Therianos.
The courtyard of the old Primary School was flooded with families and friends of all ages who came to dance, sing and taste the traditional sweet pancakes of Zakynthos, dripped in honey and sprinkled with raisins and cinnamon.
Most of the cultural clubs of the island joined in the festival, with local Zakynthian, traditional and folk dancing completing the festive and joyful atmosphere.
It is worth noting, however, that without the help of the volunteers, the “Glaouna Festival” could not have been a success that it has been steadily showing from its first year of organization. They are the women of Kallithea who, with their art and passion, prepare huge quantities of Glaounas to bring for the hundreds of guests.
