This week the Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that Greece hopes to extend the Greek tourism season to December. Mr Kikilias noted that the start of 2022 had started positively, showing signs that Greek tourism was returning to good levels, with a good start to the season. Mr Kikilias also fed back promising news from his recent visit to Romania.
As part of an interview at the weekend, Mr Kikilias said, “Our aim is to extend the tourism model in all destinations, we wish to have tourists, something that is translated into income for the middle-class Greek family, until November and December. Over 1.5 million tourists are expected only from Romania mostly to northern Greece. As the tour operators that I met in Bucharest said, Greece is the top destination for the Romanians this year. I will visit Serbia this week to continue the ‘door to door’ strategy in order to cover any existing gap of the low percentage of Russian tourists we had in northern Greece.”
Some note that the current Greek plan aligns with Mr Kikilias’s recent meetings with business owners, politicians, and tour operators, from several countries including Romania and Serbia. It also falls in the same week that Thomas Cook announced that Greece is the highest number of bookings for them at 30%!
We look forward to seeing what will happen in the future.
