Greece:- Announcements made in regards to new measures.

Measures – Papaevangelou: Recommendation for mask to be worn outdoors

The panel of experts recommends the use of a mask indoors, but also outdoors where there is coloration.

The professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases, Vana Papaevangelou, made a strong recommendation to the citizens to wear a mask for protection against the coronavirus and outdoors, where there is synchronicity, during the afternoon briefing on the course of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We obligatorily recommend the use of a mask indoors, but also in outdoor areas. In particular, the mask should be used in workplaces, shops, churches and on public transport. We do not need to wear a mask when walking with friends in a quiet place, or going for a walk in the country by oneself. However the mask should become a permanent accessory this summer especially when there are crowds  and we must have it with us at all times. “, said Mrs. Papaevangelou.

The announcements Hardalia

As Nikos Hardalias pointed out, “in the last few days, as it appears from the data we presented on Tuesday, the epidemiological situation in the country has worsened, with an increase in cases and a significant drop in the average age of our fellow human beings infected with the virus.

At the same time, and as I mentioned the day before yesterday, the tracking of the National Data Analysis Centre of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection shows that a significant percentage of cases are related to their participation in outdoor gatherings, as well as entertainment venues.

In this direction, in order to stop the increase of cases, we had to tighten the operating framework of the entertainment venues and we remind that from today they will operate exclusively with seated customers only and with the capacity rules set by the Ministry of Development.

Those companies that are checked and found to be in violation will immediately face a penalty of temporary suspension of activity from the first violation, from the very next day.

Any violation of public health measures – such as non-compliance with the ban on standing and the maximum number of customers – will result in a penalty for stores under 200 square meters fine of 2,000 euros and immediate sealing – from the next day violation – for 7 days and for stores over 200 square meters a fine of 5,000 euros and immediate sealing – from the next day of the violation – for 7 days.

In case of recurrence the fine will be uniform at 10,000 euros and the sealing will start the next day for 15 days, while in case of a third violation the operating license will be removed for 60 days.

Regarding the Epidemiological Charter of the country now, following the meeting of the Infectious Diseases Committee, it is updated as follows:

The Peripheral Unit of the Southern Sector of Athens rises a level and is transferred to orange (level 3) from yellow (level 2).

The Regional Units of Grevena, Ilia, Corfu, Argolis, Viotia, Halkidiki and Thira are also raised and transferred to the yellow (level 2) from the green (level 1) -except for the Municipalities of Thira and Letos that are transferred to Orange (Level 3).

While the Regional Units of Kozani, Lesvos, Pieria, Ikaria and Kilkis go down a level and are transferred to green (level 1) from yellow (level 2).

Corfu Island and the Diapontian Islands (Municipalities of Corfu and Diapontian Islands, North Corfu and South Corfu) and the Municipalities of Trizinia and Salamina rise to the level and are transferred to Yellow (Level 2).

The Municipalities of Skiathos and Kos fall flat and are transferred to Yellow (Level 2).

While the Municipalities of Ikaria, Aegina, Alonissos and Skopelos fall flat and are transferred to Prasino (Level 1).

For the other issues discussed by the Commission, there will be announcements from the competent ministries “.

What applies to travel

Nikos Hardalias also referred to what applies to travel:

For travel to islands by boat or plane, we remind you that all passengers need:

For adults:

vaccination certificate or disease certificate

negative PCR result in the last 72 hours or

negative rapid test result in the last 48 hours.

For minors 12-17 years: any test, including self test.

Minors up to 12 years old travel freely.

On return from the islands to the mainland.

There is a recommendation for a self-test for all those over 12 years of age. Passengers must have the vaccination certificate with them (remember that at least 14 days must pass since the completion of the vaccination) or the certificate negative PCR or negative rapid test or the disease certificate can be downloaded on their mobile phone in digital form or by printing from the platform gov.gr.

For tourists the vaccination certificates of the European Union (digital COVID certificate) as well as third countries will be accepted.

The above certificates will be checked electronically by the ship or airplane crew. The identity of the passengers will also be checked with their identity card or passport or any other document certifying their identity.

There is no mandatory measure for travel within mainland Greece. It is highly recommended however, to do a self test for any travel required.

The following are excluded from the measures for travel to the islands:

those who move between different Regional Units (we repeat this is only for Islands) for work reasons on a daily basis who have to do a self-test every week

Those who travel between islands that are very close or on ferries that connect the mainland with islands nearby, must do a self-test every week if they are employees and also (self-test) before moving the rest.

We remind you that in all travel by ships, planes, buses as well as in public transport a mask is mandatory.

We realize that with each passing day the desire to finally leave the pandemic behind grows – and therefore following the rules of health may seem more difficult. But we must not forget that the virus is still among us. But there is a way to deal with it: With vaccination which is our weapon. Because vaccination is the solution, the shield against the pandemic, the only way back to normalcy. “And until the vaccination program is completed, we must do regular diagnostic tests and follow the sanitary measures and protocols”.
