Greece:- Austrian Airlines to start flights to Zakynthos.

Without prejudice to new official restrictions, the number of Austrian Airlines will now increase by 20% (instead of the originally planned 5%) compared to the same month last year, the number of chartered flights to Greece in July – Austrian Airlines (AUA) – according to today’s announcement, while the flight schedule for August is currently in progress and will be announced soon.

From July, AUA will operate intercontinental flights again and as announced today in Vienna, two weeks after the resumption of flights, long-haul aircraft will take off again, initially to Bangkok, Chicago, New York and Washington, while, as he stressed Andreas Otto, a member of the board of directors of the company, the good demand allows the supply of additional destinations to continue to increase.

In the pre-coronavirus era, specifically in mid-December, the Austrian national airline (Austrian Airlines), presenting its program for 2020, predicted up to 70 flights a week this summer – by 12 more than in 2019. – to 19 destinations in Greece.

After a nearly five-year hault, direct flights from Vienna to Kavala and Samos would resume in May, adding to the destinations in Greece with which Austrian Airlines connected the main Austrian cities during the summer months. .

The program also stipulated that weekly flights to Rhodes would increase from three to eight, as well as from four to seven flights to Heraklion. In addition, flights to Corfu were to increase to five, and to Kos to three, while flights to the “classic” destinations Zakynthos, Karpathos, Mykonos and Skiathos would remain unchanged in the summer schedule.

Due to the coronavirus’ crisis and restrictive measures, Austrian Airlines had suspended its flights in mid-March, and has since renewed its shutdown every two to three weeks. The last scheduled flight, with OS number 066, coming from Chicago, landed in Vienna in the morning hours of March 19th.

Part of the fleet remained vigilant for emergency flights and repatriation of Austrian citizens from abroad, but at the same time both the parent company Lufthansa and the Swiss subsidiary Swiss had not completely suspended flights during the coronation crisis.

According to announcements by the Austrian Airlines, passengers on the plane and at the Vienna airport must use a protective mask, which, as in other public transport, they must carry with them.

In addition, travellers are required to take into account the applicable entry and quarantine regulations of the respective destinations when planning their trip, and, as emphasized, there may be longer waiting times for safety checks due to hygiene regulations.
