Greece:- Coronavirus, Government to make important decisions today.

At the moment, the information states that in the regular teleconference taking place today at 11.00 and which will be chaired by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, important decisions are expected to be taken.

The new measures that came “on the table”

In addition to the outbreak of the cases and the holiday period of the 15th of August, which will bring further relaxation, it puts infectious disease specialists and authorities on a “red” alert. It has already been announced that Covid-19 tests are now mandatory for those coming from Malta, the suspension of liturgies and festivals, as well as the end of the “standing” customers. While the local lockdowns in Poros and Ampelona Larissa show that the government is not joking.

At the same time, according to Ethnos, a “message” was sent to Thessaloniki for lockdown if the outbreak of cases continues. Concern also prevails for Corfu, which has a high number of cases. Officials attribute this to Albania’s proximity to the northern gates, where a significant number of positive incidents have been reported.

Government sources say that there are now thoughts of new strict regulations that will be very reminiscent of last March’s measures. In particular, it is considered very likely that by the end of August and after examples of the behaviour that will be taken from the 15th of August, the government will proceed with arrangements for the adoption of the teleworking measure in large companies and institutions, the delay in opening schools and postponement of the Thessaloniki Fair which is due early September.

What is not considered possible, however, is a new total lockdown, as it would have catastrophic consequences for the country’s economy. However, it is not ruled out that there may be new restrictions on movement of citizens, if the situation continues at the same pace.
