What is the situation in Attica and Thessaloniki.
The National Organization of Public Health (EODY) announced on Tuesday afternoon (18/01) that the laboratory confirmed new cases of coronavirus are 23,340, of which 53 were detected after checks at the country’s gates.
The total number of cases amounts to 1,703,396 (daily change + 1.4%), of which 49.8% are men. Based on the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 443 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,214 are related to an already known case.

The new deaths of patients with COVID-19 are 106, while since the beginning of the epidemic a total of 22,197 deaths have been recorded. 95.0% had underlying disease and / or age 70 years and older.
The number of patients treated by intubation is 673 (58.5% men). Their median age is 65 years. 80.1% have underlying disease and / or age 70 years and older. Among intubated patients, 548 (81.43%) are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 125 (18.57%) are fully vaccinated. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,916 patients have been discharged from the ICU.
The admission of new Covid-19 patients to the hospitals of the territory is 475 (daily change + 0.64%). The average seven-day admission is 552 patients.
Sewage for Attica shows stabilization of the virus at high levels.
During the week 10 to 16 January 2022, there were increasing trends, compared to the week 3 to 9 January 2022, in the average weekly viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in the urban wastewater of seven of the twelve (7/12) areas tested from the National Network of Sewage Epidemiology (EDEL) of EODY.
Declining trends were observed in one area (1/12) of EDEL and stabilizing trends were observed in the other four (4/12) areas controlled by EDEL.
The purely upward trends ranged from + 32% in Volos to + 281% in Patras. The viral load of urban wastewater remained stable in Larissa (+ 8%), Xanthi (-10%), Ioannina (-6%) and the Attica Region (-6%).
Reduction in the viral load of urban wastewater was observed in Thessaloniki (-31%).
