Supreme Court intervention for the fires that burnt hundreds of thousands of acres of land in recent days.
The prosecutor’s office of the Supreme Court ordered the investigation into the possible existence of an organized criminal arson plan, in the aftermath of the huge fires that broke out in Attica, Evia and the Peloponnese, which has burnt hundreds of thousands of acres of land, so far.
The prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Vassilios Pliotas, in his order speaks of “an excessive number of fires of unusual intensity and extent” which, in combination with the “synchronization of their event, create reasonable suspicions of deliberate organized criminal activity and not just simple, random incident of negligent conduct “.
In this context, he asks the Prosecutor of the Court of Appeals and the Security of Attica to gather “data that provide indications for the existence of an organized plan and central planning for a joint action of arsonists-members of a criminal organization”.
