Greece:-New measures: Heavier restrictions are coming – Health experts are meeting.

Towards new, stricter measures for the non- vaccinated by the government if the vaccination rate is not increased

Today, Wednesday and not as usual Thursday, the committee of experts of the Ministry of Health meets in order to assess the situation with the spread of the coronavirus that has formed throughout the country after the 15th of August.

The scientists will study step by step all the epidemiological data of the country in order to decide which areas face the biggest problem with increasing cases, but also to consider possible new measures that they can propose.

Of course, the final decisions will be made by the government. The scientists of the committee have decided not to propose specific measures to the government, just to present the scientific data, so that the decisions can be taken at a political level. However, the first measure that scientists may suggest, especially in areas with very high viral load, is to return the use of a mask in outdoor areas as was the case a while ago.

The malls.

The government, for its part, is determined to take even tougher measures for those who are not vaccinated, in order to tighten the noose around them and reduce the spread of the virus. In fact, as valid sources of emphasize, in case the percentage of vaccinations does not increase in the coming days, the scenario is to apply measures in shopping centres and malls so that the entrance there is done with a vaccination certificate or laboratory test. This will be the second step after the announcement of the new measures yesterday, as the government aims to implement the restrictions in stages.

Of course, on the other hand, most of the scientists who advise the government, consider that now the vaccination rate has reached a point that it is difficult to increase to a large extent. That is why they estimate that it is extremely difficult to achieve the wall of immunity, since today the percentage of fully vaccinated in the country is close to 55%.

However, restrictive measures for nursing home workers seem to have paid off, as the rate of vaccinations has risen significantly within a few days. Respectively, the competent government officials hope that it will be done with the measures for the obligatory tests on all employees in public and private sector.

It should be reminded that more than one rapid test per week should be done by unvaccinated workers in the private and public sector – except for teachers and workers in tourism, catering, television, film, theatre, music and dance productions where two are expected a week. These tests will be performed exclusively in private diagnostic centres at the expense of the employee for 10 Euros per test.

The test is proved with a digital certificate of negative test from gov.gr which is updated every week and is obligatorily checked with the application covid free app by the employer.
