Greece:- New strain of Coronavirus in Greece.

Information that the new strain of coronavirus arrived in Athens.

In Greece, alarm bells are ringing according to information the mutated strain of the coronavirus was detected in our country as well..

It is the new, mutated, strain of the coronavirus that was first identified in England and has worried scientists around the world, as it is considered at least 70% more contagious. It has already started to appear in several countries, mainly due to trips made during the holidays and this has caused even more concern in the scientific community.

In fact, today it was located in Cyprus, so it was considered a matter of time to come to our country, if in fact it had not already happened.

In Greece the new strain.

According to information broadcast by ANT1 in its main news bulletin, the mutated member has already appeared in our country.

As mentioned, in four of the cases that were recently identified, there was this mutant strain, which according to the studies that have been carried out, is transmitted much more easily and also more easily to children, compared to the coronavirus as we knew it until now.

It is worth noting that, as broadcast by ANT1, the mutated strain was located in samples given to the Institute of Biotechnological Research of the Academy of Athens and was found in four cases.

According to information from Alpha, this is from a flight that arrived in Greece last week from Great Britain. As it is known, those who come from Great Britain undergo a rapid test. There, these cases were found positive and then molecular tests were performed, in which the new strain was identified.

In fact, according to the information, it is very likely that the detection of the mutated strain led the government to the decision for a stricter lockdown in the coming days, in order to stop any large-scale spread in the country.

Gogos: Obviously there will be a strain of the mutated virus in Greece

Speaking to Alpha, the professor of Infectious Diseases Pathology and a member of the committee of the Ministry of Health, when asked about it, did not confirm the existence of the mutated strain in our country, however he underlined that the mutated strain is expected to arrive in our country.

“The mutated virus is not going to have borders, with the transfers from one country to another we will definitely have cases of the mutated virus all over Europe and obviously there will be in our country and it seems that such strains have already been detected,” he said. .

“That is why there is generally this skepticism regarding the contagion and because of the holidays and because of the presence of this virus in Britain it existed in other European countries and it is very natural to exist in Greece as well,” he added.

“The presence of a mutation in our country does not change the data. It is something to be expected. Of course we do not know the extent it has taken. “We have to look at the epidemiological data, that is, what is the dispersion and what was the effect of the mobility and this can have consequences on the recording of its epidemiological parameters,” he concluded.

And in Cyprus the mutated strain

Earlier, Cyprus had announced the location of the new strain of the coronavirus VOC 202012/01 in Cyprus, the Ministry of Health announced.

According to the announcement, after the completion of the control of samples from individuals from the United Kingdom for the existence of the new strain of the virus, it became known that:

Following the instructions of the European Center for Infection Prevention and Control (ECDC) on the new strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus, VOC 202012/01, which was first detected in the United Kingdom and then in various European countries, the Ministry of Health proceeded, through the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, to a specialized screening of samples from individuals who had arrived from the United Kingdom and had been positively diagnosed with the virus.

In particular, all positive samples of arrivals from the United Kingdom were sent to ING from the day the UK authorities announced the existence of the new executive in their country, ie on December 20, 2020, and up to 15 days before. More specifically, from the 19 samples of the period 6-20 December 2020 that were examined, in 12 of them the strain VOC 202012/01 was identified.

It is noted that the new strain of the virus has been associated with higher viral load, faster spread and higher transmissibility of up to 70%. The new strain of the virus is thought to have contributed to some extent to the increase in cases in Europe and, consequently, to the increase in hospitalizations.

It is recalled that the recommendations of the ECDC focus, among other things, on the strict observance of personal protection measures and the intensification of epidemiological and molecular control through laboratory tests “.
