Greece:- No more MASKS is being discussed.

Finally, masks not required in some places until 15/09 – The committee of experts meet to discuss

The committee of experts will give its suggestions in regards to the use of the masks within the government today.

According to information, the obligation to use the mask indoors might be abolished from June 1 until September 15.

According to the same information, the use of the mask will be mandatory in hospitals, other health structures, nursing homes, Metro, Tram and buses. For the other means of transport where there are numbered seats such as planes, trains, ships and KTEL coach services the use of the mask will be optional.

Regarding the announcements of the Committee of Experts, the position of the Minister of Health Mr. Thanos Plevris is typical, who pointed out yesterday that “We are now  have passed 16 days pluss adding the week which was Easter. The dynamics of their pandemic during summer months as we had predicted based on the advice of experts, is very low. After 16 days and although there was a full release of restrictions, ie there were no proof of covid certificates, only the measure that existed was the mask indoors, so overall catering, entertainment, all spaces were free, we see that the declining course of cases and harsh indicators that are mainly associated with the burden on the national health system continues, so now it seems that what the experts advised us is based “that all through the summer months it does not appear to be a problem, unless something changes and the pandemic returns.”

He added that today “The Committee will discuss the part that we had left open, which has to do with the use of the mask from June 1 and we will wait to hear the positions of the scientists. The mask will definitely remain in some places that will indicate In areas of exception such as hospitals, places where people are vulnerable, etc., but beyond that if there needs to be more or less space this is something that the Commission will suggest as we are also quite cautious and we have talked to the “The Minister of Education, Mrs. Kerameos, in the part of the schools. Because the schools end on June 15, so you understand that there is very little time left. And there are also the national exams where we want to have our children protected”.

We should emphasize, of course, that the coronavirus pandemic in Greece is in a phase of milder de-escalation as the new cases show a drop which is of the order of 12% on a seven-day level.

Also, the new admissions have decreased, to 111 per day, while a little over 1000 are now the total number of patients due to covid.
