Recently the Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias met with several countries to boost tourism to Greece in the future. His latest meeting has been with Veroljub Arsic president of the Tourism Committee of the Serbian parliament and president of the parliamentary Serbia-Greece Friendship Group who said that Greece is the Serbs’ favourite [holiday] destination this summer.
A report noted that as part of a meeting with Serbian tour operators around 900,000 Serbian tourists are expected to visit Greece this summer. In fact, Ivica Dacic president of the Serbian Parliament told Mr Kikilias that one in two Serbians have chosen Greece as their summer holiday destination this year.
Mr Kikilias said, “And now the figures are very encouraging. Half a million direct travellers from the USA, Greece as the top tourist destination for the French, excellent figures from TUI and Der Turistik in Germany, a higher number of tourists from the UK and the Scandinavian countries, from Israel and from the countries of the Balkans, while Greece is the top road destination for the Romanians.”
Mr Kikilias said that despite everything that’s happened in recent years, winter destinations have pricked up, cruise business is doing well and tourism numbers over Easter in Greece were positively high.
Greece is continuing to work hard to cement strong tourism links with many countries to try and boost their tourism in the coming years. It could be a very busy year for lots of Greek destinations that are dependent on tourism.
