No need for molecular testing (PCR) after a positive rapid test “, notes Mina Gaga for coronavirus cases in vaccinated
You do not need a molecular test (PCR) after a positive rapid test,” said Deputy Health Minister Mina Gaga, referring to coronavirus cases in vaccinated people.
Specifically, she states: “You do not need a molecular test (PCR) after a positive rapid test. Because at the moment there are many cases and a lot of trouble and people it is better with the rapid test to stay at home we have and not to go for pcr. There are a lot of people needing tests, waiting in the queue is very long, “It’s important to be better at home.”
With the long queues and the endless waiting for pcr test, the Deputy Minister of Health recommended after a positive rapid test that the protection measures be taken and that no molecular test need be performed.
“Only those who are not vaccinated for the first time and wish to issue a certificate of illness need to confirm the positive rapid with PCR, which does not make sense to people who are fully vaccinated”, added the professor of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and member of the Committee of Experts. Ms Vana Papaevangelou.
She even explained that although the sensitivity of antigen tests is lower than that of PCR, most studies have shown that patients who have a false negative antigen test, ie rapid but positive PCR, are people with a low viral load, therefore low transmissibility. “With the large dispersion we have today it is essential to be careful and stay home as long as we have any clinical symptoms of the common cold.”
