Greece:- Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis announces compulsory vaccination and new measures to take place

New measures: Mandatory vaccination and changes in focus – changes in entertainment services.

From July 16th until the end of August in catering and entertainment. Who is affected by the compulsory vaccination?

The data on the measures for the coronavirus pandemic is changing again, due to the large spread of the Delta mutation in combination and in relation to the lower expected, vaccination rates of citizens.

Based on what the Prime Minister announced:

  • Vaccination is now mandatory for workers in nursing homes, which will take effect immediately. Those who do not do so will be suspended from work from August 16th onwards

  • From September 1, a mandatory vaccination will also apply to health professionals, in the public and private sectors. In case of refusal, non vaccinated professions will have to take time off that is owed to them, if they still refuse to be vaccinated then they will have to take time off without pay.

  • Special provisions will be given to the Armed Forces. From now on, permanent and conscripts will have the opportunity, but also incentives, to be vaccinated in their units. Whenever the first category wants, whilst the second category,  with their enlistment.

Entertainment changes.

From Friday 16 July until the end of August, all indoor areas, nightclubs and bars, cinemas and theatres, will be open exclusively for vaccinated. With increased but predetermined number of visitors. Then the digital application service will be in operation, which will easily certify if the citizen has been vaccinated. This is a practice already followed by countries such as Denmark, Germany, Austria and Luxembourg. Vaccinated people, therefore, will enjoy the privilege of sitting in restaurants, cafes and bars without having to wear a mask.

However, the Prime Minister did not mention open spaces, so based on what has become known so far, vaccinated and non vaccinated will be allowed in open spaces.

In addition, in recreational areas – either open or closed – only seated customers will be allowed and not standing for the entire summer.

Also, the restaurants will now have the possibility of more table seats, with the controls being strict. According to information, in order to reduce any objections, the completeness is expected to be determined at 85%.

Zakynthos Informer would like to remind our readers that changes are happening fast and often, therefore the announcement that our Prime Minsiter has made will be followed up with official announcements by each department within the Government, we will try our best to update as more information is released.
