The Greek tourism sector will be given a boost this season by taking on Ukrainian refugees as employees. It’s been confirmed that approximately 10,000 residence permits have been given to Ukrainians, and approximately 25,000 of them have also received permits to work in Greece too.
This year there has been a shortage in staff across the tourism and hospitality sector. The Greek government have decided to offer those refugees seeking shelter from Ukraine the opportunity to work in the sector. One hotel group has already said it will offer free accommodation and jobs to 300 Ukrainian workers.
Another unnamed company said it’s offering around 200 roles in Crete, Kos and Rhodes and are liaising with a Polish travel office to try and assist with suitable jobs.
In April, the Greek Tourism Confederations (SETE) president, Andreas Andreadis, wrote in a tweet that more than 50,000 jobs in hospitality, in Greece, are still open, with the most vacancies in kitchens and services.
