Greece suspends flights of Boeing 737 Max following EASA decision

All flights of Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 are suspended in Greek airports after the decision of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

EASA decided to suspend all flights of the two above models in the European airspace, following the crash of the Ethiopian Airlines aircraft short after its take off on Sunday killing 157 people.

Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority commander, Konstantinos Linzerakos, told state news agency amna, that the decision to order the ban of all flights of Boeing 737 Max 8 in the Greek airspace went into effect as of Tuesday (March 12, 2019) afternoon.

Europe’s aviation regulator EASA said on Tuesday it is suspending operations of the Boeing 737 Max 8 jet, following the deadly crash over the weekend.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency said it “is taking every step necessary to ensure the safety of passengers.” The decision not only applies to airlines within the European Union but to operators outside of the region flying to or from the region, the regulator said.

Aviation regulators from China to Britain have grounded the aircraft, joining a growing list of countries and airlines suspending the plane and banning it from their airspace after the second deadly crash of the popular aircraft in less than five months.

On Monday, the US Federal Aviation Administration said it doesn’t see any reason to ground the planes.
