Greece:- What is the response of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the threats of war from Turkey.

Greek Foreign Ministry responds immediately to Turkish Vice President’s threats of war over 12 nautical miles in Aegean

The Greek Foreign Ministry responded to the extreme statements of the Turkish Vice President, Fuat Oktay, about the “12 nautical miles”. “If this is not a reason for war, then what is?” Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said earlier on Saturday.

The Greek Foreign Ministry, however, was quick to respond to the new threats that Turkey is openly launching. In fact, in its announcement, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs typically states the following:

“Turkey’s unprecedented perception that it can threaten its neighbours with the use of force when they exercise their legal rights runs counter to modern political culture but also to fundamental provisions of international law. We call on Turkey to realize that international law and the values on which the modern international order is built are binding on all nations of the world. They are not applied selectively and it is the responsibility of the international community to defend them as their violation signals maximum risks.

Turkey is bound by Article 2 (4) of the UN Charter, inter alia. If he has a different perception, let him state it explicitly. In any case, we remind him that the exercise of Greek sovereignty is not subject to any form of Turkish veto. ”

Oktay for the 12 nautical miles: If this is not a cause for war, then what is?

The Vice President of Turkey, Fuat Oktay, referred to the delimitation agreements of the Greek EEZ with Egypt and Italy. “Greece wants to expand its territorial waters to 12 nautical miles. “If this is not a reason for war, then what is?” Said Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay.

Oktay reiterated that Turkey will defend every cubic meter of water in the Eastern Mediterranean, whatever happens, and added that they expect an equal and fair response from the European Union. In fact, he sent a message to Europe “not to expect Ankara to retreat. We will not give up our rights in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. ”

The casus belli is restored by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Turkish government, Fuat Oktay, in case Greece expands the territorial waters in the Aegean to 12 miles. In an interview with the state-run Anadolu news agency, Fuat Oktay said the “cause of war” for Turkey was still in place, despite previous statements by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to lift the threat against Greece.

“Are you waiting for us to accept this? If this is not the cause of war, then what is? Our nation does not listen to anyone when it comes to its independence and freedom. “It does not care what the price is,” said Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay. Meanwhile, Turkey has announced new Navtex for real-life exercises from today  to September 11th in the eastern Mediterranean.

Oktay to the EU: We will not relinquish our rights in the Aegean

Reacting to the results of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Berlin yesterday, the Turkish vice president said that “we expect equal treatment. In the context of equal treatment, no one should expect Turkey to take a step back. “This is what we want to be respected,” said Fuat Oktay, referring to Europe. in the Aegean. “Unfortunately, not only is Europe not on our side when they turn against Turkey, against the Turks and when our interests are threatened, but they do not even react on our behalf.”

We will protect every cubic meter in the eastern Mediterranean

Fuat Oktay went on to say that “whatever the price, Turkey will protect its rights in the eastern Mediterranean, as well as the rights of the Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus and its territorial waters. We will equally protect our rights in every square meter and every cubic meter in if. Mediterranean “.

We will crush those who think with the Charter of Seville

The Turkish vice-president then referred to Greece, without naming it, but stated emphatically that they would crush those who tried to stop them in the Mediterranean.

“Forgive us, but we tear up and throw away this map, but also crush – if necessary – those who are thinking of implementing this map. Now we see a structure and a European Union that is a tool of this (structure), which is trying to redesign the same map that we tore for our country (meaning the Treaty of Sevres) and for the seas. That is why they are again using Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration as a tool and as an instrument, “said Fuat Oktay, who argued that Turkey also has territorial waters and a continental shelf in the eastern Mediterranean. “And at the moment we have an exclusive economic zone agreement with Libya in the eastern Mediterranean,” he added.

“In the eastern Mediterranean, we can normally conduct our economic activities on our continental shelf and move on to economic activities. When the United Kingdom, France, Italy, America, Russia, China, or another country operates on its continental shelf, no one says anything. “When it comes to Turkey and its research in the eastern Mediterranean, we cannot understand why such noise is erupting,” said Fuat Oktay.

“We will not hesitate – Greece knows it”

Earlier, in a post on twitter, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay had stated that Turkey would not hesitate to protect its rights in the eastern Mediterranean, and that Greece and France are aware of this.

“It is hypocritical on behalf of the EU to call for dialogue and at the same time make other plans for Turkey’s activities within our continental shelf in the eastern Mediterranean.

We know very well what peace and diplomatic language are, but we will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary if we are to protect Turkey’s rights and interests. “France and Greece are among those who know this best of all,” the Turkish vice president wrote. The post of Erdogan’s representative, Ibrahim Kalin, is in a similar style. “Turkey is absolutely determined to protect its rights and interests on land, air and sea. As our president has stated, “We do not plot anyone’s rights and entitlements, but we do not allow anyone to usurp our rights.”

New NAVTEX from Turkey

Despite the European Union ultimatum to Turkey for a month to de-escalate in the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey on Friday night launched a new NAVTEX for real-life fire exercises between Rhodes and Cyprus from Saturday to September 11th.

Nicosia responded with an anti-Navtex version, denouncing the violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, international law and security in the region and stressing that Larnaca is the only one responsible for instructions there. Turkey then reacted by deciding on another Navtex, at a time when the Oruc Reis Investigation Directive has been in force since 7 August, which has been extended until  September 1st.
