Greece:- What’s on the table with new measures, announcements to be made later today.

New measures – Expert suggestion: With a negative rapid test and for the return from the Islands

What do the experts suggest for the return of tourists from the islands but also for the presence of fans in the stadiums.

The Committee of Experts recommends that new measures be imposed to limit the spread of coronavirus in the country and especially the Delta mutation, which is transmitted rapidly, especially among younger ages. Experts suggest that the return to the mainland of both residents and workers, as well as tourists from Greek islands, be done after a negative rapid test for coronavirus. We remind you that as of today pcr and rapid tests must be done for travel from the mainland to our Islands, however there was no test needed for returning to the mainland. This may change if the committee approves the new measure.

At the same time, the experts suggest that only fans that are fully vaccinated can return to the stands of stadiums. In terms of capacity, this will be 75%, while children can be on the stands, who are 5% unvaccinated, provided they have done a self test before for the coronavirus.

In any case, official announcements about the measures are expected to be made on this afternoon (Thursday) at 18:00, by the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalia and the experts, Vana Papaevangelou and Gika Majorkinis.

Peloni: Next week announcements for mandatory vaccinations

Announcements of mandatory vaccinations are also expected next week, government spokeswoman Aristotle Peloni said earlier on Thursday during a briefing for government editors.

The government spokeswoman essentially announced the acceleration of the process, given that Kyriakos Mitsotakis had previously referred to the final decisions for the winter. “The government has received the relevant suggestion from the national bioethics committee for specific professional groups, it will announce the relevant decisions next week”, stressed Ms. Peloni, answering a relevant question.

Next week announcements will be made in regards to closed spaces in the restaurant.

Regarding whether the closed spaces will be open on July 15, Ms. Peloni clarified that the course of the pandemic is dynamic and the numbers are evaluated daily. “The pandemic is a dynamic situation that we monitor and evaluate in collaboration with the Committee of Scientists. “The framework has been announced for how they could work, the current data will be evaluated and the relevant announcements will be made at the beginning of next week”, she noted.

The measures for bars and clubs.

At this point she stressed that “with the data it was decided and from today strict measures should come into force in restaurants, bars, clubs and nightclubs. These places will operate exclusively with seated customers and with the capacity rules set by the Ministry of Development “.

The government spokeswoman even stressed that “companies in which violations will be found will immediately face a penalty of temporary suspension of activity from the next day. Each violation will result in a fine of 2,000 Euros for stores under 200 sq.m. and 5,000 Euros for the largest and -in any case- sealing from the next and for 7 days. In case of recurrence, the fine will be uniform at 10,000 Euros and the sealing will start the next day for 15 days, while in case of a third violation, the license will be revoked “.

Ms. Peloni also noted that “over 60% of new cases are detected thanks to self-tests. All young people aged 18-30 and all public and private sector workers who have not been vaccinated can obtain free self-tests from pharmacies until the day after Saturday 4 July. It is, after all, obvious that early diagnosis can significantly contribute to the protection of the environment of each of our fellow citizens who are infected with the virus and of course to the reduction of the spread in the community “.

And she repeated: “The only solution, however, remains on vaccination. And this solution becomes even more imperative, as the Delta mutation has invaded our country and is expected to prevail in the near future, which is 100% more contagious than the original strain of the virus and 60% more contagious than the British strain.

The goal is for the next period, to convince and use the privilege of vaccination, our fellow citizens who are hesitant or doubt the safety and effectiveness of vaccines “. As the government spokeswoman characteristically said: “We are in a new phase of the pandemic. We have in our hands a shield that we did not have in the previous phase: the vaccine, to which all citizens have universal, free and direct access. Vaccines are effective, they work, they protect us all. Those who have not yet done so should be vaccinated immediately.

In this direction, in order to strengthen the vaccination, the Prime Minister and the government seek the mobilization of all: Local Government, Church, local bodies, but also of our fellow citizens who have already been vaccinated and can inform about their own experience.

The willingness of our fellow citizens to make an appointment for the vaccination is already strengthening, as in the last few days 300,000 new first dose appointments have been made. In order to further facilitate citizens, a separate operational program with mobile crews was launched within Crete – and will continue throughout the country – in order to cover remote areas. The response was very encouraging.

It will open next week – after a positive Opinion of the National Vaccination Committee – the dating platform for the voluntary vaccination of adolescents aged 15 to 17, with parental consent. “Next Monday, in the normal briefing , instructions will be given regarding the questions on how to make an appointment and how to ensure the consent of the parents and guardians”.
