International:- Ionian Islands showing promise at World Travel Market Exhibition in London.

Zakynthos and the Region of the Ionian Islands are making a strong presence at the international tourism exhibition “World Travel Market” in London, which opened its doors on Monday, November 7th. The English market has shown its support for our country’s tourism product as one of the strongest for 2022 and the first messages are very optimistic for next year as well.
The Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou, is already in London and is representing our region whilst making important contacts. In fact, she shares on her personal social media pages her first conclusions about the tourist market.
“The second day of the of the World Travel Market exhibition, in London. The exhibition has great dynamism and a lot of promise in regards to the restart of global tourism world wide. We are here trying to improve our position with an ever greater competitive advantage. The Ionian Islands have proven to be a stable destination within the tourist market, while giving an excellent restart. Yesterday, we already recieved two awards for our Islands, among many choices of destinations within our country, one for Lefkada and one for Kefalonia.” She then talks about how promising the year 2023 will be ” we are, from the local government side the Region of the Ionian Islands with a stand that presents all the islands. At the same time, there are also businessmen, hoteliers and tourist agents who exchange information and opinions and are preparing for the contracts of the next period. Everyone is optimistic and says that the climate will be positive despite the energy crisis with its social consequences.”

The Head of the Region spoke about the effort made by the Region to highlight our islands and to improve the tourist product provided, through the upgrading of the infrastructure. “The Region of the Ionian Islands, as every year, presents the projects carried out on our islands, because the infrastructure, the upgrading of public and private investments supported by the Region are very important pillars for highlighting the perspective of the Ionian Islands. This is what we advertise every year, and because our work is steadily growing, visible and bearing fruit, I have the advantage of proving what we said last year and the year before. Works have indeed been done. This is the biggest offer for the sustainability of our tourism. Road construction, waste management, the upgrading of port facilities and, at the same time, the support through the NSRF of private investments and also the promotion of our cultural monuments, archaeological or ecclesiastical, contribute to identity. We promote these and the entrepreneurs additionally promote their businesses and the competitive prices of their services and products”.

Regarding Zakynthos, the Regional Governor talked about the meeting she had with representatives of Jet2 and the great increase in demand. “We had a meeting with representatives of Jet 2 who told us about the great increase their company had in sales in Zakynthos and the great demand that Zakynthos has for the next year. So we are partners of Jet 2 in the sense that we advertise and contribute to the advertising that Jet2 does for the destinations in our Region. We are happy that our own contribution with advertising to Jet2 has these positive results for Zakynthos and we will continue like this for the next year”.
Finally, Mrs. Kratsa noted that the exhibitions of Paris, Barcelona, Warsaw and Austria in which our Region will participate will also be of particular interest to our islands.

For his part, the tourist agent Yiannis Filippopolitis, who is in London, speaking to our local newspaper “IMERA” expressed moderate optimism for the next season, commenting that there are fears of inflation, the energy crisis and war…
“This year, there was a very large participation in the exhibition compared to last year. There is a “thirst” for jobs and a restrained optimism that things will turn out well, always under the fear of inflation, war, energy crisis, etc. Everyone says: “Yes, but…”. The atmosphere was good! Lots of smiles and significant participation from Greek exhibitors and the whole world. It’s reminiscent of the good old days of World Travel Market.”
Specifically regarding the interest in our island, he noted: “The messages are positive. There is a “thirst” and interest in Zakynthos. Advance bookings are good and we hope to continue in the same vein. The main thing is to see what will happen with the increases… This concerns us all, from the consumer who is our feeder to how our businesses will operate, because it is a global phenomenon. Jet2 held its event, which is a company with great potential. They told us their plans and we will talk in detail soon…”
