Giostra Di Zante in Sardinia, competing in the international jousting event.
Knights of different nations have already arrived in Oristano, for the international jousting tournament of the rings. The event, organized by the Oristano Foundation and the municipal administration, will be held this evening, Sunday 2 October 2022, at 4 pm. The knights have already had a practice run this morning and have now taken their place for the contest to begin.
The event will take place on an eight figured sand circuit, built on a grassy field, 350/400 meters long with two challengers riding around the soft curves, and two straights on which a rope will be stretched to which 3 rings in diameter will be hung, each ring corresponds to a different score.
The knights of Oristano and those arriving from Osilo, from Sinj (Croatia) will compete for the victory. Barban (Croatia), Zakynthos (Greece) and Sulmona (Abruzzo). The rider will have to go round the circuit twice and will have to try to collect the rings with a 2 meter long jousting pole.
The winner will be the one with the highest score. If there are more riders with the same score, the one who has covered the circuit in the shortest time will win. In the event of a further tie, a play-off will take place.

On Sunday we will see the fruit of a long and patient work carried out with the international partners of the Oristano Foundation. There will be Sardinian knights, from Oristano and Osilo, but also others from Croatia (Sinj and Barban) and Greece (Zakynthos) and for Italy from Sulmona, all places that traditionally host ring events and that for the first once they will be in Oristano for an international competition ”.
“The first edition of the international Giostra of Oristano was born with the aim of becoming an itinerant appointment, involving all the realities that are working on the establishment of the European network of Giostre all’Anello – adds the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Oristano Luca Faedda -. And the Giostra will be an opportunity to meet and discuss, bringing together the centers linked by centuries-old events such as the Sartiglia and the Alka, and better define the details of the European Network and the memorandum of understanding, which will regulate their activity and the purposes, and which on this occasion, will be signed by all participants. The goal is to involve other cities in the future.
