One Year on – what effects has Covid had on peoples lives

Almost a year after the start of the first lockdown, the latest research of Focus Bari examined what the daily life and state of health of Greeks is today. The findings show that:

• Three out of five Greeks (60%) state that their daily life is worse today than a year ago. While less than one in three (29%) believe that it has not changed.  Also one in ten (11%) live a better daily life today than before the pandemic!
• Men report worse everyday life today than women. The same is observed for the younger ages in relation to the older ones and in Athens / Thessaloniki in relation to the periphery.

• For those whose daily life has become worse. The reasons are the lack of change of environment (82%). The fact that they constantly wear pyjamas, overalls and sportswear (42% and 52% among women). As well as the fact that they find it difficult to follow a balanced daily schedule (37%).
• Also, for those who work remotely. Two important reasons that their daily lives have deteriorated are that home workers find it difficult to draw the line between personal and professional time. Also that home conditions do not allow them to concentrate on their work, resulting in them working longer hours.

• Fortunately, in terms of health. The vast majority (78%) of Greeks state that their state of health has not changed compared to a year ago. A small proportion (14%) stated that their health is worse today than last year. An even smaller proportion (8%) are in better health than they had before the onset of the pandemic.

• For those who are better today.  They claim the reasons are that they eat better / cook at home, exercise daily, sleep better, feel less stress and spend more time on themselves and their health prevention.  Some have adopted some new, good, everyday habits.
‘ On the other side. For those who report that their health has deteriorated this year compared to last year. The reasons are just the opposite: they have gained weight because they eat more, have stopped exercising, sleep less / worse, and feel depressed / melancholy / lonely and / or stress / anxiety / fears due to the effects of the pandemic.

• Finally, the worst daily life , and the conditions of the pandemic, have led more than one in three Greeks (36%) to start and / or increase at least one of a series of harmful habits such as smoking / vaporization, alcohol consumption, betting, overdosing on dietary supplements without specialist instructions, etc.
