A horse and carriage took flight down the main port road in Zakynthos Town a while ago.
According to sources the driver of the carriage did not have time to react when the horse bolted after being frightened by fireworks in the area.
As the horse bolted pulling its carriage another carriage driver noticed the horse fleeing and tried to intervene, half way down the port road, in an attempt to bring it to a halt. Unfortunately in his effort the horse got even more terrified and the carriage rammed into a parked car. In fact the impact was so intense that the harness attached to the carriage snapped and the horse continued in its flee.
Fortunately, the horse was later caught and although terrified it was not injured.
What could have been a very serious accident, turned out to be an accident with material damage only; to a luxury car and a motor bike, and needless to the carriage. Traffic was also interrupted causing traffic jams around the area. The authorities are investigating into the cause of the accident
