Murals have become popular pieces of art, that appear all over Greece. These bright, colourful expressive works show a multitude of things from love through to political statements. Recently a new mural, part of an art display, has been painted in Patras dedicated to the heroes of Zakynthos from WW2.
The murals are part of an Artists in Israel project aimed at helping to combat antisemitism. The project was created by the creative director Kleomenis Kostopoulos, and the mural of Mayor Karrer and Bishop Chrysostomos is the second piece to be created and installed.
Kostopoulos said, “Murals are one of the most important forms of contemporary expression and communication in public spaces. Today, more than ever, we must revisit our history in Greece by bringing it to the streets and putting it in their faces.”
It is wonderful to see such a beautiful mural to highlight the important history of Zakynthos and for the Mayor and Bishop to be remembered in this way.
