A solution to the on-call doctor’s problem at the General Hospital of Zakynthos pediatric clinic was secured following the intervention by our local Member of Parliament, Mr. Dionysios Aktipis.
Following a request from the hospital administrator, the Zakynthos MP contacted private pediatricians of the island. He requested, and was agreed, that they be included by the hospital pediatric clinic in the “on-call schedule”. With their participation, the doctors will relieve the problem, even if only temporarily, to the single pediatrician, who, by no exaggerating was operating an entire clinic on his own.
MP Aktypis praised the ethos and professional conscience of the private doctors on the island, stressing that they honor their oath. At the same time, he thanked them for “being supportive” to the smooth operation of the hospital and a particularly neuralgic and sensitive clinic, thus filling gaps in our public administration. He also sought to meet with the doctors, following the end of the administrative changes, to jointly plan actions for the benefit of the citizens.
Finally, he expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved soon, as it was a first priority action of the new political leadership, which at his recent meeting with the Minister of Health achieved.
