Red tape causes problems for our social restaurant.

Held up in red tape, the Deputy Mayor, Nikos Pettas, attributes the problems that have arisen in the operation of the social restaurant, namely the delay in the food supply procedures needed for its operation. However, it provides an assurance that the target is that by the end of the month the electronic tender for the supply of food will have been completed as the credits are there and soon will start operating. He also pointed out that last year there were stocks from the previous year, so there were no problems then.

We recall that the recent article in our newspaper highlighted the problem with the intervention of the Governor of the Centre for Social Welfare of the Ionian Islands (former ΟΔΑΖ) Stathi Betini, namely that “for a month the municipal restaurant had ceased to operate, resulting in about 35 people who were fed there had to be fed at the ΟΔΑΖ during the morning and evening, and they can no longer respond. The municipality has to put these people at the forefront. If they do not immediately take responsibility for our fellow citizens in need of a plate of food I will take them to court. “

At a time when uncertainty prevails in all areas of everyday life, the weakest social groups are the most vulnerable to any change.

The economic crisis has hit many households over the period, which is characterized by a rapid increase in the poor, the unemployed, the elderly and those who follow the movement of bins in order to obtain their necessities for their survival. At the Social Grocery, we meet people of all ages who manage – and quite rightly – to overcome their initial hesitations and seek the goods they need. It is reminded that the concentration of food for this, is such an important structure and has contributed in the past both to our fellow citizens (now limited to the minimum) and to the Union of Greek Ship-owners (by the end of 2014). Unfortunately, the supply of food by businesses and ship-owners has stopped, and the economic downturn, which greatly reduces its effective operation, continues. The number of beneficiaries is very high. Our fellow residents are fed on a daily basis at the Municipal Restaurant and hundreds of portions are distributed through the Home Help program on a weekly basis.
