A letter to the Education Ministry regarding the problems of the Special needs School

It’s unacceptable!! A situation experienced by the students and teachers of the Special School of Zakynthos characterise, “we remain hostage to the contractors who have taken over the new building, which should have been handed over in September 2017”, denounced by a letter from the Labor Center to the Minister of Education.

They first reported that this is a school with a lot of problems, in a rather old building and small to cover the needs of the children attending it, since it has 3 schools (Special Primary School, Special Kindergarten and The Special Workshop for Vocational Education and Training) , 40 children and 22 teachers in a 400 square meter building, which, under no circumstances, can meet the specific needs of the children. However, they also face problems after the construction of the new building, approximately 960 square meters, approved from 2013, in which the building commenced in 2016 and the pledged was for it to be delivered in September 2017.

And they continue “Since then, the project has not yet finished and other infrastructure problems have just been created, resulting precisely from the work. Radiator, heating was abolished because the boiler room was at the new school site. The school space was limited to 30% due to the work in the new building and the modern greenhouse was pulled out to move to another place and today there are just piles of steel. “

Given that the children of the Special School, their teachers and their parents do not seek special treatment, they are asking for the Labor Center’s Board of Directors to conclude “it is a requirement that the project be completed immediately because it is one of the most necessary projects of the island. There is a need for children who need a modern school that has the standards in building infrastructure and equipment to be able to give  the necessary tools in the hands of specialist teachers. “
